Campaign support
Practical help for groups defending a specific place. Most places aren't lost in the field. They're lost on paper, in permits and plans that pass because no one had the time to answer them.
What we can help with
Reading the documents
Environmental assessments, impact statements, permit applications, and management plans. We help you find what matters in them and where the deadlines are.
Comments and testimony
Drafting or reviewing public comments and testimony so they make the points an agency has to respond to.
Grant applications
A second set of eyes on a proposal before you send it.
Strategy
Thinking through timelines, pressure points, and who else should be involved.
How it works
Write to us with the place, what threatens it, and any deadlines you're facing. We'll tell you honestly whether we can help, and how much.
This is volunteer work, so we take on a few requests at a time and keep each one focused. We can't promise ongoing staff time or legal representation, but a few hours at the right moment often goes a long way.
If your group needs a fiscal home to raise money for the campaign, fiscal sponsorship covers that.
Lend a hand
If you have experience with environmental or administrative law, NEPA or CEQA review, or writing clearly about ecology and land use, we'd be glad to hear from you.
